Several States are discussing “Drug Testing” in order to qualify for Unemployment or Welfare Benefits? Is this just more of the “War on Drugs,” or a step in the right direction?
According to the NY Times, a deal may be in the works to extend the “Bush Tax Cuts,” but hinges on extending Unemployment Benefits. Is this really a solution?
According to The Hill.com, the Senate failed to pass an extension of the Federal Unemployment Benefits. Intended to help stimulate the economy and help those who were affected by the earliest impacts of the Recession, these benefits were not expected to last forever, so it’s really no surprise that they weren’t extended today…except by the people who have been receiving them.
Great News! The RECESSION IS OVER!!! That’s right, folks: it’s over. Break out the champagne, put on your party hat and kick up your heels like Michael Flatly in Lord of the Dance! The LA Times reports that the National Bureau of Economic Research has reached the conclusion that the Recession that started in December of 2007 officially ended in June of 2009, just six months after the Inauguration of President Obama. That’s right: true to his word, Obama has cooled Global Warming, Lowered the Seas, Cleaned the Air and Saved the Economy. Can’t you just feel it? Praise be Obama!
I’m really not sure how one counts a “Saved Job.” Economists are baffled at the very thought. Still, that doesn’t keep our Government from making the claim.
