On this last day of the year for 2010, I thought I’d put together my Top Ten list of events in American History for the year. These are the events from the year that I believe will have the most lasting influence on the future of our country. Some are good, some are bad, but I believe all of them will be taught by Historians in the future. So, without further ado, let’s count down the list and bid adieu to 2010!

Maybe Republicans are counting their “Ducks” before they’ve hatched, or maybe it’s the Democrats trying to shift the fervor of the Conservative Movement into complacency, but Conservative Talk and posts on Social Networking sites like Facebook.com seem to be abuzz regarding the potential ramifications of a “Lame Duck Congress” following the Mid-Term Elections in November. “What’s the worst that can happen?” is the question, with answers ranging from a rapid forced passage of Cap & Trade Legislation, Comprehensive Immigration Reform, the “Livable Communities Act” or even Martial Law! But I think we’re putting the “Cart Before the Horse,” or at the very least the Duck before the Vote.

Right now, Congress has targeted the “Fat Cats” on Wall Street, seeking to make examples of the investments of Goldman Sachs and other firms who took advantage of their positions to garner tremendous profits, even as the economy dove into recession. They are clamoring for “Reform,” a favorite buzzword of the political class, in an effort to “protect the little guy.” And Congress is offering 1300 pages of reform, pushing for votes for the past two days to bring the bill out on the Senate Floor for debate. And, while I understand the popularity of this push to reform the Investment System, I question if the “Reform” being offered is the BEST move that can be made at this time. Let’s think about this for a moment.

It is unacceptable for ANYONE to take violent action against ANYONE unless you are literally in the moment of DEFENDING YOUR LIFE! One question I always had in school, which was never answered in class, I might add, is “Why are there TWO houses?” I mean, really, what is the purpose of having two different groups of people who all share the job of writing and passing laws? It doesn’t make any sense…unless you actually take the time to READ the Constitution.
