Over the years, I’ve realized that the Big Lie theory espoused by Adolf Hitler and Joseph Goebbels is unfortunately true. Unfortunately, most politicians and media have resorted to using the Big Lie and Thought-terminating cliches instead of actually attempting to use reason to state or defend a position.

I’ve never claimed to know everything about everything (or even everything about some things), but I do go out of my way to learn as much about a topic as I possibly can before spouting off opinions about it. Does that make me perfect? Of course not, but my goal isn’t perfection. My goal is understanding.

A lot of people try to claim that they’re totally “independent” with no bias of any kind. I’m not going to even try to make that kind of claim. I’m extremely conservative fiscally, and mostly conservative socially. Does that mean that I can’t be fair looking at an issue from both sides? I don’t think so. It also doesn’t mean I’m going to accept the position of the far-right blindly either. Before I state a point of view, I research it to make sure that I agree with it. I’m not about to “sell” something that I wouldn’t buy myself.

And it doesn’t mean I’m always correct either. I’ve had people change my mind on positions with well-reasoned arguments before. I’ve never had my mind changed by someone hurling insults at me, though.

One final thought. I’ll do my best to separate fact from opinion. Doesn’t mean both won’t be here, just that I’ll try to state clearly which is which.
