BEWARE EASY ANSWERS by T. Edwin Perry
A man calls to the computer help line and says, “My computer is running slowly. My software won’t work right, and it keeps freezing up.” The guy on the other end of the line says, “Reboot.” Does that sound familiar? As a geek who uses my computer about 14 hours out of each and every day, between work and home, I’ve certainly been guilty of giving that advice. If it doesn’t work, restart it. Give it the old “Three Finger Salute” and see if that fixes it.
Of course, that doesn’t always fix it. My wife’s computer had a virus on it. Rebooting allowed the virus to seize the computer at start up. It made it worse. I had to use a restore disk and clean its operating system in “Safe Mode” in order to fix the problem. Had I not had a restore disk and been able to bypass the startup codes, I would have had only two choices: reinstall the operating system or replace the whole computer. Either way would have been a nightmare, as reinstalling the operating system deletes all of the software and data on the drive, and replacing it would have had essentially the same effect.
I’m using this example because I’ve noticed a trend in the various blogs and Facebook.com pages dedicated to pointing the Finger of Blame at the Obama Administration for the nation’s ills. As I’ve said before, I disagree with pretty much EVERYTHING that his Administration has done, and pretty much EVERYONE involved with this mess, but blaming Obama is too easy of an answer. While his actions have most certainly caused a dramatic increase in the National Debt and created incredible roadblocks in the way of our economic recovery, it isn’t all Obama any more than it was all Bush. It’s just too easy of an answer.
There are plenty of people who have contributed to this disaster, and, before you start pointing the Finger of Blame at Obama, I urge you to take a look in the mirror. How much did you really know about the candidates in the last election? If you know anything about John McCain, you’ll know that he’d likely have taken us down the same path. Granted, he might have used a slower car and wouldn’t have had quite as much support from THIS Congress, but, as an admitted Progressive, he’d have still pointed us in this direction.
How much did we know about George W. Bush when he was elected? I remember him campaigning as a Conservative, but what EXACTLY about his administration WAS actually Conservative? He signed almost every spending bill that passed his desk. He subscribed the same Keynesian economic philosophies that assume that Government Spending can fix an economic crisis. Were in not for his “Day of Infamy” event (September 11, 2001), he’d have likely brought us to the same Progressive destination as well.
Bill Clinton may not have been a Progressive himself, but he was certainly influenced by them. Remember “Clinton-Care?” That was as large a Progressive disaster as “Obama-Care,” and his “apology tour” of the world weakened our position in the world as much as Obama’s. (You ever see the movie “Black Hawk Down?” Not one of our greatest moments!)
George H.W. Bush, the former Vice President to Ronald Reagan, stepped into the Presidential Office ready, willing and able to turn away from Reagan’s Conservative influence, and embrace a Progressive Stance on almost every issue. In fact, hindsight being 20/20, even the great Ronald Reagan succumbed to the pressures of a Progressive Congress. There hasn’t been a truly Conservative President since Calvin Coolidge in the 1920’s!
So what’s the answer? Where’s the “Three Finger Salute” that will fix our Nation’s problems? The Inconvenient Truth is that there is no magic cure. There is no Easy Answer. It took 100 years of Progressivism to get us to this point, and it will take a dedicated and concerted effort on the part of Conservatives to pull this nation “Back from the Brink.” It’s not just a matter of voting President Obama out of the White House, or of getting Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid out of Congress. We must say “NO MORE” to the Progressives running for ANY office, and we must re-examine EVERYONE who holds an office EACH AND EVERY TIME THEY RUN to make sure that they have not become corrupted. We are humans, and our opinions change, but we are also Americans, and that means it is our Duty to remain vigilant on the issues concerning our Freedoms and Liberties. We must stop accepting the choices between the “Lesser of Two Evils” that are presented to us, and we must start DEMANDING Honor, Dignity and Conservatism from our elected officials. The Constitution is our “Operating System,” and we have to be our own “Restore Disk” to reset our systems to fix our problems!
But we must also Beware the Easy Answers that our offered. Freedom is not a gift; we must earn it by INDIVIDUALLY making sure that it is never taken away.
