WASTEFUL SPENDING by T. Edwin Perry
Some people just don’t get it. If you’re going to spend money, it helps if you have some to spend. If you don’t, it’s probably not a very good idea to spend it. If you put it on CREDIT, it’s going to cost more in the long run than if you just paid cash up front. And if you have to put it on Credit, you should know that you will be able to pay for it by the time the payment is due…AND THEN MAKE SURE THE MONEY IS THERE. But SOME PEOPLE just don’t get it, including Misrepresentative Ron Klein (D-FL).
Today, I received a nice little document in the mail. It’s printed on glossy paper, folded neatly, in full color with pictures and graphics and has a nice little statement printed on it: “This mailing was prepared, published and mailed at taxpayer expense.” And what message was so important that they felt the need to spend money at my expense? The answer is simple: Propaganda.
The President and Congress are in full sales mode, trying to sell an American Public that DISAGREES with their Healthcare Program on the “Benefits” of their legislation, attempting to convince those who object to what they’ve done that it’s a good thing.
Now, I took the time to read it, and, WOW, I just couldn’t believe what a GREAT program they’ve pushed through. According to Misrepresentative Klein, the first thing this program does is “close the donut hole,” the out-of-pocket expenses to Medicare Beneficiaries. How do they do that? By issuing a $250 rebate check to all Medicare Beneficiaries. Sounds great, right? I ask, “How will you pay for it?” Their answer: taxes.
Then it says that it “Increases (the) number of Primary Care Doctors” by providing a “new investment.” Yeah, there are no details about this in the mailing. I’m thinking that they’re going to go with “Outsourcing” or importing foreign doctors to work here. And considering that the doctors I’ve spoken to about this are NOT in favor of the law, I’m wondering how their going to GET new Doctors to join up, especially when the NEXT paragraph says it provides FREE Preventative Screenings. Wow, just imagine being that Doctor who “gets” to provide a free service under a Government Program that ALREADY shorts its providers on payments.
Then it talks about the benefits to “Small Businesses,” including tax credits of up to 50% of the costs of providing health insurance, a benefit that will be REQUIRED to be paid by the employer under the new law. (In other words, they’re going to make businesses pay more, but then give them a credit to soften the blow.) And they make the claim that this law will CREATE an estimated 80,000 new jobs NATIONWIDE. (Hey, that’s great! That’s almost 20% of the jobs LOST LAST WEEK!)
Of course, this masterfully-produced piece of propaganda completely overlooks the takeover of the Student Loan Programs, the penalties to be charged to anyone who chooses NOT to pay for insurance, or the fact that, by restricting the ability of Insurance Companies to be able to make a profit, this bill practically GUARANTEES a single-payer, Government-Run healthcare system within the next 10-20 years. HELLO, SOCIALISM!
But, let’s talk about how much this cost. Like I said, this was a WELL-PRODUCED piece of propaganda, printed on a rigid glossy cardstock with a fold, printed to be delivered to me or “Current Resident.” Assuming that the card COULD be produced economically, it still likely cost at least forty-cents each, and that’s being VERY conservative. Then, there’s the issue of postage. The current rate for a first class stamp is forty-four cents, but let’s assume that the Federal Government, which subsidizes the Postal Service, and can post each piece for ten cents. That’s a total of fifty cents for each piece. There are approximately 305 million people in America. Let’s assume that 20% are under 18, leaving a total of 244 million recipients for this piece of propaganda. At fifty cents each, this mailing was done at a cost of $122 Million to try to sell me a product I don’t want…AT MY EXPENSE!!!! And, to add insult to injury, it didn’t just come to me: my wife got one, too!
Clearly, Misrepresentative Ron Klein, whose name is all over this thing, doesn’t get the whole “TEA Party” message about Out of Control Spending, so let me make this clear for Mr. Klein. STOP SPENDING OUR MONEY FRIVOLOUSLY!!!!
And stop trying to feed me crap by calling it chocolate. It’s insulting to us BOTH!
