I’m tired of the “Race Card” by Steve Hansen
Anybody else out there ticked off for being called a racist? I figured we all know what “racist” means, but just in case, I decided to look it up. According to Merriam Webster, a racist is:
- A belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race
- racial prejudice or discrimination
By this definition, anybody that has been denied a job or denied admission to a university as the result of “Affirmative Action” would be the victim of racism, and the person that made the decision to deny that job or university admission would be a racist. But I digress.
I don’t see anywhere in that definition where it says you have to be white to be a racist. More importantly, I don’t see anywhere there that says you’re a racist because you disagree with someone else’s opinion.
But, it would appear that you can also be classified a racist solely because you disagree with President Obama’s stand on anything. And I’ll probably be called a racist by some, just because I’m pointing that out. But, there is apparently no reason that a liberal can’t refer to somebody as a racist, or a bigot, or a tea-bagger, or a terrorist, or a Klansmen solely because they align themselves with the Tea Party. (As a side note, what does it say that every conservative I know had to look up “tea-bagger” to find out what it means, but many of the liberals seemed to already know?)
Does anybody remember during the Bush years when we were told that it was “patriotic” to challenge the administration? That even implying an attempt to silence critics of the administration would be called a violation of the 1st Amendment with the ACLU ready to send lawyers in on attack?
But now, we have people that are legitimately worked up over what they view as an attempt to destroy their country from within, and they’re being accused of treason and sedition? Really? At what point did questioning the administration and their job and threatening to vote them out of power for violating The Will Of The People become an act of sedition or treason?
You think that mainstream America isn’t concerned about what’s happening in this country? I’m going to be flying shortly – unless they scrap all flights due to Volcanic Ash (bet that was Bush’s fault, somehow) – and I caught a shuttle in from the “Park and Ride” lot. And I had the shuttle bus driver offer me a pocket sized copy of the Constitution. I turned him down because I already have one, but if you don’t have one, I strongly recommend getting one. And don’t let anybody tell you that you’re a racist because you think it should be followed!
