SO LONG, CHARLIE

Should we act surprised, like a kid who snuck a peak at the Christmas Presents hidden in his parents closet and then opened the gifts Christmas morning, or should we just accept the fact that EVERYONE knew long ago that Charlie Crist, Governor of Florida and 2010 Senate Hopeful, has decided to dump his long-time Republican Association to run as an Independent? Should we pretend that we didn’t know it was coming? After all, yesterday’s announcement was nothing more than a dog and pony show, intentionally waiting until the last possible moment to confirm what everyone suspected for weeks. Much in the same way his VETO of Florida State Senate Bill 6 was held until a Thursday to make sure it got the most media buzz, his actions were completely anticipated. (Perhaps we should call April 29, 2010 “Crist-mas!”)

THE BATTLE OF WALL STREET

Right now, Congress has targeted the “Fat Cats” on Wall Street, seeking to make examples of the investments of Goldman Sachs and other firms who took advantage of their positions to garner tremendous profits, even as the economy dove into recession. They are clamoring for “Reform,” a favorite buzzword of the political class, in an effort to “protect the little guy.” And Congress is offering 1300 pages of reform, pushing for votes for the past two days to bring the bill out on the Senate Floor for debate. And, while I understand the popularity of this push to reform the Investment System, I question if the “Reform” being offered is the BEST move that can be made at this time. Let’s think about this for a moment.

DEFENDING ARIZONA

I’m not a racist. I don’t think that just because somebody has a certain skin color that they are automatically criminals; however, there are times when logic and realism have to come into play. Right now, there is a serious problem with violent illegal trespassers crossing our border from Mexico and committing crimes against Americans. It may not be polite, but it is the truth. Ignoring the threat because someone may be insulted by the response is foolish, and leaves people open to become victims…ALL PEOPLE.

WASTEFUL SPENDING

Today, I received a nice little document in the mail. It’s printed on glossy paper, folded neatly, in full color with pictures and graphics and has a nice little statement printed on it: “This mailing was prepared, published and mailed at taxpayer expense.” And what message was so important that they felt the need to spend money at my expense? The answer is simple: Propaganda.

COMING TO AMERICA

I am not ANTI-immigration. I’m PRO-immigration. And because I love my country and what it stands for, I can completely understand those who want to come here and be part of it. I embrace them as my new brothers and sisters, welcoming them to become citizens, to join in the discussion and to reap the benefits of their labors in ways that, for most of them, they could never know in the lands of their birth.

And I have this belief because I am a CONSERVATIVE.

I’m tired of the “Race Card”

Anybody else out there ticked off for being called a racist? I figured we all know what “racist” means, but just in case, I decided to look it up. According to Merriam Webster, a racist is: A belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an [...]

CRIST VETOS SB6

Not surprisingly, Governor Charlie Crist VETOED the Senate Bill 6 on April 15 at noon. Teachers celebrated. Schools held assemblies. The media ran video & audio of kids chanting their victory. (Birds began singing. The sun came out. The sea levels fell. Oh, wait…)

TENURE TANTRUM

The Education System in the State of Florida is on the verge of a substantial change relating to the way the TEACHERS are compensated. Senate Bill 6 threatens the established order of the system and, now that it has been passed in both the Florida Senate and the Florida State House of Representatives, it faces the decision of Governor Charlie Crist, who is campaigning for the upcoming Federal Senate Race, on whether to Veto the bill or sign it into law.
