CHANGE YOU CAN BELIEVE IN by T. Edwin Perry
In my previous post, Dollars Making Sense, I talked about how our Previous Leaders felt about Economics by quoting the Presidents pictured on our currency. Today, I’m going to do the same thing by quoting the Presidents pictured on our coins, but the point of this post isn’t the Economy, but the Power of the People!
So long as our Government continues to act in its “Infinite Wisdom” regarding what is best for the People, in defiance of the Will of Those People, they will continue to inspire Resistance, Defiance and, eventually, Revolution. (That is the hardest sentence I have ever written, and perhaps the most honest.) I don’t want that to happen any more than anyone else, and my only hope is that our Current Leaders will heed the words of the Past.
Penny – Abraham Lincoln
“America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves.”
Nickel – Thomas Jefferson
“Every Government degenerates when trusted to the Rulers of the People alone. The People themselves are its only safe depositories.”
Dime – Franklin D. Roosevelt
“The only sure bulwark of continuing Liberty is a Government strong enough to protect the interests of the People, and a People strong enough and well enough informed to maintain its sovereign control over the Government.”
(Note: FDR was not a Conservative…he was a Progressive, and quite proud of it. I doubt his sincerity about a people strong enough to control the Government, but Progressives rarely say what they actually mean. More often than not, they say what they know people want to hear. Just something to think about.)
Quarter – George Washington
“Government is not reason, it is not eloquence, it is force; like fire, a troublesome servant and a fearful master. Never for a moment should it be left to irresponsible action.”
Half Dollar – John F. Kennedy
“Let us not seek the Republican answer or the Democratic answer, but he RIGHT answer. Let us not seek to fix the blame for the past. Let us accept our own responsibility for the future.”
