James O’Keefe is allegedly at it again. The darling of Fox News and BigGovernment.com, particularly after his revealing documentary video of ACORN representatives assisting him and Hannah Giles, posing as a “Pimp & Prostitute,” in filing their taxes and advising them how to start a brothel using underage illegal immigrants, has set his sights on Democrat Senator Mary Landrieu. The charge against him and three others is that they entered the Senator’s New Orleans office and attempted to tamper with the telephones, possibly to illegally tap them.
Now, I happen to be a fan of his ACORN videos. I think that, as a journalist, he did the right thing. He set up a situation, he recorded the interaction, and he shared the result. This, my friends, is journalism. Unfortunately, if he is involved in an attempted wiretapping a US Senator’s office, he has gone too far. Why? Because he is not a member of LAW ENFORCEMENT, he does not have A WARRANT, and he has VIOLATED THE LAW!
I’m as frustrated with our Government as I think anyone can be, but there are lines I won’t cross. I won’t cross them because, if I did, I’d be no better than those I criticize. It would appear that Mr. O’Keefe may have forgotten that little fact.
I’ll give the guy the benefit of the doubt. He may not have done it. It may all be some elaborate game to discredit the guy, and, if he is exonerated, then he should BE EXONERATED. But it may not be a game, and if he did it, he SHOULD face the punishment for his crime, HOWEVER THE LAW DEFINES IT.
No excuses. If he did it, and if they convict him, he should face the punishment. That’s the responsible thing to do. To their credit, both Fox News and BigGovernment.com have shared the same basic outlook on the situation. Good for them, and I hope all of the “Liberal” media outlets take a break from their “Snoopy Dance” and remember that. Unlike all of the times that they’ve given a pass to their “Elite” reporters, like Dan Rather and his George Bush/National Guard story, the “Conservative” outlets are calling it what it is: A Bad Idea. End of story.
