REVERSE RACISM IS RACISM! by T. Edwin Perry

For those who didn’t get it from the title, I’ll say it again: reverse racism IS racism! It’s probably the simplest, most absolute statement I’ve ever made in one of these blogs, and it is the kind of direct, straightforward thinking that True Conservatives are known for.

A recent Comment posted on a previous post, Social Justice – The Un-Level Playing Field, by Lynn made me consider this fact, and prompted the writing of this post. For the record, I think Lynn is a great person. She is not a racist, but she is a self-admitted Liberal in some regards. The argument that she made was that people of certain races and socioeconomic backgrounds are not afforded the same opportunities as others, and should be given special treatment. This, my friends, is called “Reverse Racism,” and is a very “Compassionate” and “Politically Correct” position to take.

The simplest definition of racism is this: “The Preferential Treatment given to one person over another due to the color of their skin or ethnic background.” The simplest definition of reverse racism is this: “The Preferential Treatment given to one person over another due to the color of their skin or ethnic background.”

Where people get confused by is the word “Reverse,” which simply means that the race that WAS given preferential treatment isn’t any longer, and the one that WAS NOT given preferential treatment now IS; however, and this is important, shifting racism from one group to another DOES NOT make up for the wrongs of the past. It does not correct the indignities of the 1950’s or 1960’s, and it does not go back and give opportunities to people who had been denied to them in the past as a result of racism. Nothing can do that, and nothing will.

Injustice cannot be corrected by another injustice; however, that seems to be the destination that the Civil Rights Movement has been taken to. It isn’t justice, and it isn’t right: it’s just racism, and there is absolutely nothing “Compassionate” about racism.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech states that he dreamt of a day when his children wouldn’t be judged “by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.” But what does it say about us as a society that, forty-seven years later, his children, and that of the nation, are still judged by the color of their skin instead of the content of their character? The only difference today is that instead of the judgment being so harsh as to be oppressive, it, instead, enables an acceptance of mediocrity.

Dr. King’s generation knew the concept of hard work and perseverance. They faced brutal opposition to make the dream of EQUALITY a possibility. Their fight wasn’t a coup, but a revolution. It wasn’t about taking over, but taking their rightful place of having the same “inalienable human rights” defined in the Declaration of Independence: Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness!

I believe that Dr. King and those who shared his position in the 1960’s would agree with me when I say that what our society has become is not the embodiment of his dream, but his nightmare. Instead of holding all people to the same standard and expectations, we make excuses. It is an INSULT to say to ANYONE that they cannot succeed without the “help” of someone else simply because of the color of their skin…no matter what color it is!

For the record: There is nothing RACIST about CONSERVATISM. All people are created equal. What you do after THAT is up to you!
