My Glowing Endorsement by T. Edwin Perry
There are only a handful of people who’s approval I truly desire, and strive to attain, and who’s disapproval could actually influence the direction of my life. First on that list is my wife. (That’s not rhetoric: it’s fact.) But a close second on that list is my grandfather, Edwin Page. It’s my respect and admiration of this man that inspired the use of my middle name in my published works as T. Edwin Perry.
Allow me to tell you a few things about my grandfather. For him, ETHICS is a primary concern. I’ve never known him to say anything he doesn’t mean. His family has always known that he loved them, because he has always worked hard to support them. In his life, he’s done jobs that he loved, and jobs that he hated, and did them with pride because it was the right thing to do, not because it would bring him fame, fortune or respect. And while his love for his family was always free, we have always been motivated to work hard and apply ourselves in an effort to gain his approval because of the example that his life has set. When you speak with him, you know him to be both humble and modest, but earnest in his convictions. He’s willing to hear your opinions with patience, but he’ll let you know in no uncertain terms if he disagrees. That’s how you know that you can believe what he says. And, as he reaches 95 on October 9th, you know that he’s seen enough of life to know what he’s talking about.
I’ve recently sent a collection of my postings to my mother to share with him. (Yeah, I’m cheap. I only printed one copy. Remember, I’ve been unemployed for four months! Kind of hits you in the wallet, you know?) A few days ago, he sent me an e-mail with his reactions to them. (Yeah, he’s 95, and he e-mails. Now THAT’S a cool grandfather!) With a great deal of personal pride, I’m going to post that letter at both MaverickVoice.com and on Facebook.com. I hope you will read his words and appreciate his perspective, just as I do.
Thank you, Grampa. Your approval means the world to me.

Dear Todd:
I just finished reading the rants sent to your Mother and agreed with them 99% of the time. When I finished my thought was that they should be “Must reading for all of Americans, especially kids in high school and college” Some of your illustrations might shock the tender ears of some of the teenagers, at least they probably would have in my teen years, doubt they would today.
When Obama announced his run for president I was concerned that with his Muslim background, and the character of many of his associates, that he would be the perfect plant for the terrorists. By the time he had won the election I realized he was a very intelligent man with a lot on the ball and if the majority of Americans voted for him I must be wrong. In fact I could believe that he had the potential to become one of our greatest presidents.
My belief now has swung back to how better to break America than financially, which he certainly will at the rate he is going, and his choice of associates has not improved with few exceptions.
I blame Congress for years of failing to do what they were elected to do. If General Motors had taken a 10% cut in pay from top to bottom, they could have solved their own problem, and still make as much as their competitors. We don’t need a new Medical Program, just correct the wrongs that have crept in, particularly the graft.
Now you have got me ranting.
Love, Grampa
