Hollywood Sides with Child Rapist by T. Edwin Perry
Do you ever feel that the “Hollywood Elite” is just a LITTLE out of touch with reality? Maybe it’s the Multi-Million Dollar Paychecks, or the drooling paparazzi, but it seems that those in Hollywood think that they know what’s best for the rest of us, so long as it doesn’t apply to them.
You want examples? I’ll give you examples. How about Michael Moore? His most recent tour de-farce is all about the evils of capitalism, for which he’ll likely make quite a bit of money. (Ironic, don’t you think?) Oh, then you have the celebrity-filled “I Pledge” video where they promise to be a servant to President Obama and all Mankind, not to mention the “United Funk of Funkadelica.” (That rascally Anthony Kiedis of the Red Hot Chili Peppers: what a card!) Oh, and how about Bill Maher and his comments about Americans being too stupid to make the right choice regarding Government-Run Healthcare. (Sure, the fact that he’s an American supports the claim that Americans are stupid, but other than that…)
So, let me give you another example. There’s a 46 year old man who is trusted by a 13 year old girl. He gives her drugs and alcohol, takes nude pictures of her, and then has sex with her, even though she says no. He confesses to the crime. Would you let him walk? Would you say, “Well, it’s really not that bad, so you should just go ahead and skip jail?” Would you give him an Oscar?
Well, apparently, if you’re Roman Polanski, that’s exactly what SOME celebrities support. You see, that’s exactly what happened, nearly 30 years ago, with a 13 year old girl and a confession. The courts decided to grant the director bail, and when he got out, he realized that they were going to send him to jail, so…he left the country. He hasn’t been back in 30 years. He couldn’t even be present when he won his Oscar. POOR BABY!
She was 13 years old, people. She was raped. If this was Joe Shmoe on the street, you’d demand he be castrated and fed to the wolves, but because this guy is a celebrity, people like Whoopi Goldberg, are supporting his release from a Swiss Prison, where he is awaiting extradition to the United States. Her defense: “I know it wasn’t rape-rape.”
Well, I’m sure that makes his victim feel better to know that it wasn’t a rape-rape. And that certainly must make it all better.
Debra Winger says, “It’s a three decades old case that is dead but for minor technicalities.” You know, Ms. Winger, you’re right. There’s just a few minor technicalities left to deal with, like PUNISHMENT.
And Producer Harvey Weinstein calls Polanski “a humanist.” Ahh, doesn’t that make you just feel like giving this child rapist a big, loving hug? Just don’t be a 13 year old girl, and I’m sure you’ll be fine.
FACT: He’s a rapist. He confessed to it.
FACT: He left the country to avoid being punished for his crime.
FACT: He has avoided countries with extradition agreements with the United States to avoid being arrested.
FACT: He has lived his life relatively unaffected since the rape, making movies and money for the past 30 years, with no concern for his crime other than to avoid arrest.
FACT: He needs to go to jail.
I don’t give a damn about the fact that he’s 76 years old. For the past 30 years, his victim has had to live with the FACT that she was raped. That’s not something you forget. And she may choose to forgive him, but the FACT remains that he committed the crime. Now, finally, he can serve the time.
Whoopi Goldberg and the others who support him need to remember something very, very important: just because you are a celebrity does not make you above the law. If anything, it makes sure that the eyes of the world are upon you, and you should watch your step, because when you step in it, we will see.
And it will stink, just like it would for anyone else.
