Selective Servant? by

For those of you who have read my previous posts on Facebook.com, some of which may eventually find themselves re-posted here at MaverickVoice.com, I have tried VERY, VERY HARD to be somewhat fair in my opinions. I try not to criticize only one party, or only one person, because I truly believe that the problem with our Government is represented by both of the main political parties, even though I am, myself, a professed and admitted Conservative.

That said, I find myself more than just a little angry today, and my anger is directed squarely at the President of the United States, Barack Hussein Obama. I’m angry because this President has made a conscious choice to selectively address his proposals for Healthcare Reform to those outlets that have, in the past, been essentially supportive of these plans, while intentionally avoiding those outlets that have been critical. Not sure what I’m referring to? Google “Obama Snubs Fox News.” You’ll get the whole story from multiple sources, but I’ll give you the Cliff’s Notes version right now.

President Obama is addressing the nation individually on multiple news channels, including ABC, CBS, CNN, NBC and even Univision, but has intentionally chosen to ignore invitations to speak on Fox News. Why? In my opinion, and that, apparently, of the Fox News anchors, he doesn’t want to have a discussion, but a supportive forum to address his opinions.

President Obama said it clearly: “My door is always open, but know this: I will not waste time with those who have made the calculation that it is better to kill health reform than to improve our healthcare system.”

But isn’t this media push intended to change the minds of those who do not ALREADY support his plans? Shouldn’t Fox News be the forum of choice if he wants to change the opinions of those who do not agree with him? Wouldn’t Fox News be the ideal way to reach those who won’t watch CNN or MSNBC, or ABC, or CBS, simply BECAUSE of their obvious support of his agenda?

It seems to me that President Obama, who is supposed to be a PUBLIC SERVANT, has decided that he will be a SELECTIVE SERVANT, and I find that to be insulting. What would have happened if President George W. Bush, who was incessantly criticized by the very news forums that President Obama is addressing today, had opted not to allow those stations to interview him? I’ll tell you what I believe would have happened: those agencies would have sued on the grounds of their First Amendment Rights to a free and unabridged press!

I’ve been more than fair in the past with many of the things he’s said and done, often at the criticism of my own audience, but this is an insult, pure and simple, not to Fox News, but to those citizens, to which he has sworn a sacred duty to serve, who do not agree with his agenda. I can assure that this action will do nothing more than to drive a wedge further between those who support him and those who do not. This action will make clear that he does not respect those who have gathered in recent months at Town Hall Meetings and other gatherings, such as the one on September 12th in Washington, where Citizens have decried his agenda as being not only wrong, but UNCONSTITUTIONAL!

So, today, I’m angry. Shame on you, Mr. President. If you cannot make a case strong enough to convince those who oppose your agenda, you should work to make that agenda Better, but you should never ignore ANY of your constituents simply because they disagree with you. The path you walk today is treacherous and dangerous. One wrong step at this point could prove disastrous, not just to your Administration, but to the peace and prosperity of this nation. Tread softly, and pay attention NOW to your every step.  Today, you have proven those critics who claim that you are only concerned with your own legacy correct. Today, you have proven those people who say that you are ignoring them correct. Today, you have become a Domestic Threat to the Constitution that you have sworn to protect from just that kind of a threat.

Shame on you, Mr. President: Shame on You.
