The Elite Government by T. Edwin Perry
There is a word in the English language that describes a type of Government like no other. It is Tyrannical in Nature. It is Destructive to Capital Economics. It is Oppressive to Civil Liberties. And, it is the Least Balanced form of Government on the face of the planet. I don’t know if you’ve ever heard of it, and, if not, I’m going to introduce it to you today. That word is “Oligarchy.”
Before I give you the definition of this word, allow me to tell you a story. (I promise, it won’t be a very long story, so please bear with me.) There once was a Government that selected to tax one group of its citizens to the benefit of another group. The group being taxed had no choice in whether or not to pay these taxes, and often did not even know the amount of the taxes due until the day they were to be collected. The group being taxed had no influence on the amount of the taxes, or how those taxes would be used. When the other group needed more money, they would simply increase the taxes due from this one group, even to the point where taxes were levied for services and commodities that the taxed group were not utilizing, or were not even offered.
Have you figured out WHICH Government I’m referring to? Am I talking about Apartheid in South Africa? Nope. How about Italy under the rule of Mussolini? Nope. Could I possibly be talking about Germany under the rule of Hitler? Oh, my friends, you’re not even close. Am I talking about our OWN government right now here in the United States?
Not yet, but it certainly does bear a striking similarity, doesn’t it?
No, my friends, I am referring to England in the years leading up to our Revolutionary War. The cause of that war began with taxes, and, as those taxes charged to the Colonists rose and rose with no end in sight, our Forefathers begged and pleaded with England for just one thing: a voice in Parliament. These men who founded this Great Nation didn’t seek out a war. They didn’t want it, and struggled to avoid it. They took pride in being Englishmen, and they proudly proclaimed their love for King and Country, but that love was not reciprocated, and it pushed our Forefathers to the only conclusion that they could reach.
Oligarchy is defined by the Mirriam-Webster’s Online Dictionary (www.m-w.com) is: “1: government by the few; 2: a government in which a small group exercises control especially for corrupt and selfish purposes; also: a group exercising such control; 3: an organization under oligarchic control.”
The English Government operated as an oligarchy, with Parliament, at the behest of the King, imposing a tyrannical control over the American Colonists to the sole benefit of the English Empire, and with no consideration for the benefit of the Colonists to which that Government was indebted. All our Forefathers desired was representation, a voice within that body in deciding those taxes. Not independence, not a new nation, not a new name: all they wanted was an opportunity to be represented.
Today, our Congress is rapidly approaching this same tyrannical type of government, where the elected officials act as an “Elite Oligarchy,” daring to tell those who voice their disapproval and disdain for actions which can be argued as UNCONSTITUTIONAL as being wrong. Our Representative Republic is being hijacked by this group of people, regardless of political party in name, who dare to assume that they know what is best for the people, or, as I am more likely to believe, have chosen to ignore what is best for their constituents in the name of self-benefit.
To quote Voltaire, “Power Corrupts, and Absolute Power Corrupts Absolutely.” Long term Senators and Representatives with nothing to lose do what benefits them personally, whether it be more power or more money, or a combination of the two. There is no other reason why they would support idiotic legislation to fund “pork-laden” projects or inflate our deficits to these extreme levels.
And don’t believe that this argument is limited to the current Obama Administration. The arrogance of our Government dates back generations, growing in strength and brazen abuse with every passing term.
The time has come to remind our Government of some very powerful words, signed by 56 men who knew that the time had come for change.
“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. That to secure these rights, governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed. That whenever any form of government becomes destructive to these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their safety and happiness.” (Source: The Declaration of Independence available at http://www.earlyamerica.com/earlyamerica/freedom/doi/text.html )
I hope that our Government will remember these words, and the change that followed, and choose to correct their mistakes while there is still time.
